WINTER IN NORTH CYPRUS

14 November, 2015

The winter months in North Cyprus bring the lemon harvest . . .

The winter months in North Cyprus bring the lemon harvest. It is a truly magical sightseeing Lemon trees bearing their heavy fruit. The bright yellow lemons against the clear blue sky make for great photos. This lemonata is also one of the most important ingredients for the National cocktail Brandy Sour. Anyone serving a decent brandy sour should only use homemade lemonata, not the shop bought syrups.

Another reason why North Cyprus is famous for lemons is because of the author Lawrence Durrell.Lawrence Durrell wrote a book called Bitter Lemons in which he describes three years of his life he spent in the beautiful of Bellapais. You can buy this book on Amazon and get a really good feel of what life was like in the 1950s in Cyprus. Different than today as the Island now stands divided, but the village of Bellapais is pretty much the same. Time has stood still, you can even visit the famous house belonging to Lawrence Durrell, and have a drink in the famous Tree of Idleness restaurant.
So, with fresh lemon for your gin and tonic, or freshly made homemade lemonata, winter really is a great time to visit North Cyprus.
